Dan Kusaya and Chimurenga Inspirations. Dan Kusaya plays music from all over the world, but he is steeped in the traditional music of South Africa. Growing up in Zimbabwe, he learned to play mbira at the age of five, and soon after became a master on the marimba. For several years, Dan toured with Thomas Mapfumo, known as the “The Lion of Zimbabwe” for his immense popularity. Eventually, Dan made his way to the US, where he now makes his home in Bloomington.
