Multi-instrumentalist Ronnie Malley of the Allos Musica Ensemble will outline the history of the Oud, an ancient Arabic lute and pre-curser to the modern guitar, and demonstrate playing styles from various Middle Eastern traditions. Emphasis will be placed on the modal system known as Maqam and its role in the history of Arabic music. All are welcome and no experience with the oud or Arabic music is needed.
