Black Lives Matter to Folk and Roots

We at the Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival recognize that systemic racism historically prevented and still prevents many Black musicians from being seen, heard, and able to financially support themselves.  Despite these barriers, Black musicians have profoundly shaped America’s musical heritage and continue to inspire creativity and a vision of a better society. To the Black artists and organizers in Champaign-Urbana, we want to thank you for all that you do to make our community vibrant and strong. We aim to give a bigger platform to Black artists, both at this year’s festival and in the future. We vow to do our part to acknowledge and end systemic racism. Black Lives Matter. Black Artists Matter.
