DESCRIPTION:December 2024’s episode will feature the Big Ol’ Occasional Cajun Band Holiday Throwdown w/ special guests Clayton Burke on pedal steel and Jeff Yonkus on fiddle. In addition\, some of our local friends who have played with the band over the year will sit in for part of the show. This will include Frances Harris (fiddle)\, Sean Kutzko (drums) and perhaps others. We’ll play our usual mix of Cajun\, Creole & Zydeco and have a lot of fun. \nThe Occasional Cajun Band plays a mix of traditional Cajun\, Creole and Zydeco music. The band performs music found in the dancehalls (and at festivals) in southwest Louisiana including lively two-steps\, soulful waltzes\, and get-down Zydeco. We hope that you’ll want to dance. Musical influences include the Balfa Brothers\, Boozoo Chavis\, Bois Sec Ardoin\, Canray Fontenot\, Preston Frank\, and Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys.

DESCRIPTION:Dear friends and music lovers\, \nPlease join the Occasional Cajun Band for our gig at the Rose Bowl. That will be this coming Sunday\, July 14 from 4:00 to 6:00PM.  We’ll be featuring our special guest Tom Martin. Here is a brief bio about Tom.  \nFrom St. Louis\, multi-instrumentalist Tom Martin plays piano\, button accordion\, and piano accordion. He’s currently a member of the Southside Creole Playboys\, a band that plays traditional Cajun and Creole music in the St. Louis area. From about 1995 to 2010\, Tom was a member of Gumbohead and they played a terrific mix of Cajun\, Zydeco and tunes from many New Orleans-based bands. Tom’s influences include Professor Longhair\, Marcia Ball\, Boozoo Chavis\, Steve Riley and others.   \nSo at the gig on July 14\, expect a big mix of Cajun and Zydeco tunes as usual but we will be asking Tom to play some straight-up New Orleans piano classics.  This should be fun and I hope to see some of you there. \nRob

Around Urbana-Champaign they have been part of the Squeezetones\, The Cornstalkers\, and the touring contra dance band\, Euphor\, as well as playing as a duo.  After moving to Kentucky\, Tom teamed up with his wife Shannon (guitar\, vocals\, triangle) to form the core of various bands playing old-time and Cajun music. Meanwhile Matt and his partner Claire Johnson (fiddle) began performing in the sterling string trio\, Meadowhawk. They also take great pleasure playing together whenever the family gets together.

DESCRIPTION:Greetings friends and music lovers\, \nThe Occasional Cajun Band will be performing on Wed.\, May 29 at Carle Park in Urbana\, 6:30 to 8:00PM. This concert will kick-off the 2024 Neighborhood Nights free concerts\, sponsored by the Urbana Park District. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket\, some friends and family and let’s get the summer started. \nFor this show\, the band will be joined by Blake Miller a multi-instrumentalist (fiddle\, accordion\, bass\, and more) and Grammy-nominated musician from the Lafayette\,. LA area. Blake was a founding member of the Pine Leaf Boys and also played with the Red Stick Ramblers. He currently plays with The Revelers and Blake Miller and his Old Fashioned Aces. Blake is the grandson of Larry Miller\, one of the well-known accordion builders in Louisiana. Blake grew up surrounded by Cajun music and culture. \nThe core of the band will be there and that includes Charlie Harris (bass)\, Sam Payne (guitar)\, Dad Dave Pride (drums)\, Matt Turino (fiddle) and yours truly on accordion. \nIn case of inclement weather\, the show will be on Thurs.\, May 30.
