Ivas John Blues Band

Ivas John BandTogether, between Ivas John’s ability with the guitar and the songwriting assistance from his father, Ivas’ sound is a blend equal parts Ry Cooder, Mose Allison, Robert Cray, Van Morrison, Keb Mo, and Delbert McClinton. The music pleases the casual bar patron and the scrutinizing critic alike. Though he is an artist who understands the debt that is owed to his predecessors, and how important it is to honorably carry traditional music on, Ivas John is no copycat. As such, fans may have a hard time pinpointing exactly in what blues style Ivas is playing, but none will question that it is the genuine article.

Music of Elizabeth Douglas, aka Memphis Minnie 1929-1950, with Del Rey

Memphis MinnieJoin Del Rey for a workshop on the life and songs of America’s most influential acoustic blues musician. An innovative guitarist with a recording career that charts the entire development of blues guitar from pre-war rural styles to post-war electric, a songwriter who was both prolific and personal, and a character who wore full-length ball-gowns while chewing tobacco, Memphis Minnie was a fascinating person. Del Rey plays the songs and tells the stories of Minnie and her colleagues Kansas Joe McCoy, Big Bill Broonzy, Frank Stokes and others.

David Berchtold

David BerchtoldWhen done well, fingerpicking a guitar looks so easy anybody could do it. But the task of convincing several digits to make music while moving simultaneously in different, yet coordinated directions, when it appears effortless, takes a good deal of concentration and practice. David Berchtold, an acoustic guitarist for more than 40 years, makes the process seem like spreading butter on hot bread as he picks the six-string with melody and rhythm while singing.
