The Cosmic Otters make people dance.
Based in Chicago and Bloomington, Indiana, the group draws from Irish, Scottish, English and French-Canadian traditions to create original tunes and ear-catching versions of traditional melodies. Grooving and inventive, the twin-fiddle powered group plays for contra dances, English country dances and Irish set dancing throughout the Midwest and beyond.
The band – Meg Dedolph, Eric Schedler, Edward Wallace and Jonathan Whitall – released their debut CD, “Indiana Sunrise,” earlier this year.
Rachel Shapiro Wallace is a dance caller who definitely communicates the joy of dancing. Her high-energy approach involves clear, concise walk-throughs and working with the band to create that groove that dancers love.
The Cosmic Otters with Rachel Wallace contra dance is made possible in part by the Urbana Country Dancers.
