Mardi Gras Party with Dennis Stroughmatt & Friends @ RBTV Online
Feb 12 @ 8:00 pm

Greetings friends and music lovers,

Just in time for Mardi Gras, I’ll be playing music with Dennis Stroughmatt on Friday, Feb. 12. We’ll be streaming from the Rose Bowl in Urbana and the show will start at 8:00 PM CST.

Along with Greg Bigler (on bass), we’ll be taking a Mardi Gras Road Trip that will include French songs from Old Upper Louisiana (Missouri-Illinois-Indiana), and Cajun & Creole music from southwest Louisiana. We’ll also make a brief stop in New Orleans somewhere along the way.

The gig will be streamed on Facebook —
Mardi Gras Party with Dennis Stroughmatt & Friends

The Rose Bowl streams shows on RBTV (Rose Bowl TV). Besides Facebook, you can access RBTV on YouTube.

Hopefully, we can provide some musical warmth in the middle of the Arctic Blast.

Thanks and I hope that some of you can catch this livestream.

Rob

English Country Dance! @ Channing-Murray Foundation
May 22 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

We are planning to hold an English Country Dance on Sunday, May 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Channing-Murray Foundation in Urbana. We will be asking everyone to show proof of vaccination at the door and to wear masks while inside the dance space. We certainly hope we can start holding dances with less restrictions in the near future, but for the moment we feel we need to make these requirements to keep everyone safe.

Hopefully, the weather will be nice and we can have some refreshments at the break outside the building. We’ll have to keep an eye on the weather to see about that. We will also be keeping an eye on the current COVID numbers in case they get bad again and we have to reschedule.

This will be our first regular dance in over 2 years, so we are all a bit rusty. We are planning on doing a number of basic dances. I hope that everyone will be able to join us.

English Country Dance is the dance form that was popular in England and America in the 1600’s, 1700’s and early 1800’s. It is one of the dance forms from which modern contra and square dance are descended. If you’ve seen any of the recent Jane Austen movies then you’ve seen this sort of dance. We also do some early American dances from the Colonial and Revolutionary War eras.
