Veretski Pass is one of the most highly regarded bands playing in today’s klezmer scene, offering a unique and exciting combination of virtuosic musicianship and raw energy that has excited concertgoers across the world. The trio plays Old Country Music that is a true collage of Carpathian, Jewish, Rumanian, and Ottoman styles seamlessly integrated with original compositions. Weekly Blues Lesson and Dance

On Monday evenings we gather for a lesson and dance at Guido’s Bar & Grill. The lesson and the dance are both FREE.

Beginner-Friendly Lesson: 6-7pm. Our friendly and experienced instructors Jennifer, Sierra, and Dave share the teaching role.

Blues Social Dance: 7-9pm

Open to all ages. No cover. Drinks and food available from our host venue, Guido’s Bar & Grill.

Beginners welcome. No partner required. Come dance with us!

Gateways To World Music: Veretski Pass (Music from the Carpathian Bow) @ Music Building Auditorium

Veretski Pass features Cookie Segelstein (violin), Joshua Horowitz (chromatic button accordion) and Stuart Brotman (bass) performing music from the Carpathian Bow. Together they offer a unique and exciting combination of virtuosic musicianship and raw energy that has excited concertgoers across the world. With colorful instrumentation, unique arrangements and compositions, Veretski Pass plays “Old Country” music; music with origins in the Ottoman Empire, once fabled as the borderlands of the East and the West. Co-sponsored by C-U Folk and Roots Festival; Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation Endowment Fund of the C-U Jewish Federation; Hillel at the University of Illinois; Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center and Program in Jewish Culture and Society, UIUC.

The Gateways to World Music Series is supported by School of Music and College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Illinois.
