The Champaign/Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective @ Clark Bar
Jan 2 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Started in the Spring of 2011 by Jeff Arrigo and Christopher Todd Durnil, the Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective originally met at the UC-IMC on Wednesday nights. We have now moved the location to the Clark Bar and meet on the first Tuesday of the month, with special showcases the following Tuesdays. This is a great group and all of us have become fast friends – it’s open to all styles, all ages, we’re non-judgmental – we’re all just there for the love of music and sharing songs and ideas for songs with one another, and talking about the music scene. If you haven’t come out to the group yet, please be sure to mark the first Tuesday of the month on your calendar. It’s a great time, and I’m always looking for musicians who would love to play on Tuesdays!

Be sure to check the Facebook page for announcements of the second Tuesday special showcases!

Sassafras Stomp House Concert
Jan 4 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Maine based, high-energy folk duo Sassafras Stomp performs at a house concert on Thursday January 4th in Champaign IL. Fiddler Johanna Davis and guitarist Adam Nordell showcase an array of original and traditional songs and fiddle tunes in support of their new album, Walk These Fields. The duo hits the stage with fiddle bow flying and boots stomping, at 7 pm at Anne Robin’s House in Champaign. Doors open at 6:30.

Nordell and Davis cultivate a hybrid lifestyle as the owner/managers of a small, diversified organic farm in Unity, ME, and as touring musicians in the wintertime. The duo grows vegetables and grains on thirteen acres of south facing field at Songbird Farm and travels coast-to-coast, performing high-octane, place-based folk music on guitar, banjo and fiddle. Drawing imagery from the rolling hills of Maine farm country and the Montana mountains, Nordell writes lyrics etched with a clear sense of place and steeped in folk music tradition.
