The Champaign/Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective @ Clark Bar
May 2 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Started in the Spring of 2011 by Jeff Arrigo and Christopher Todd Durnil, the Champaign-Urbana Singer-Songwriter Collective originally met at the UC-IMC on Wednesday nights. We have now moved the location to the Clark Bar and meet on the first Tuesday of the month, with special showcases the following Tuesdays. This is a great group and all of us have become fast friends – it’s open to all styles, all ages, we’re non-judgmental – we’re all just there for the love of music and sharing songs and ideas for songs with one another, and talking about the music scene. If you haven’t come out to the group yet, please be sure to mark the first Tuesday of the month on your calendar. It’s a great time, and I’m always looking for musicians who would love to play on Tuesdays!

Be sure to check the Facebook page for announcements of the second Tuesday special showcases!

Noctambule @ Piper's Hut
May 5 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

MARLA FIBISH and BRUCE VICTOR are NOCTAMBULE. They play original and traditional music in a variety of forms – original musical settings of a broad array of poetry, original instrumental pieces, and traditional Irish tunes and songs. This unique collaboration brings out qualities in both of these seasoned musicians that you may not have heard from them before. Their music is rendered with lush beauty, sensitivity and humor on an unusual array of strings — various guitars in varied tunings, mandola, mandolin, bouzouki, cittern, tenor guitar — and their blended voices.

Del Rey Blues Musician in Concert @ The Iron Post
May 6 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Del Rey, from Seattle, Washington, is a complex, pianistic guitarist, described as “a combination of Bo Carter and the Andrews Sisters” (Observant Fan). Her guitar playing is influenced by country blues, stride piano, classic jazz and hillbilly boogie-all filtered through the sensibility of an autodidact trailor-park aesthete.

Del Rey is fascinated with the ukulele and plays the same kind of complicated rhythmic blues and ragtime on four strings as she does on six. She expects a lot out of the little instrument, and usually gets it. “The ukulele taken to a new level of musicianship”. (John Book)

Her live show is full of complex grooves and sly humor. “Virtuosic in just the right way, which is to say, in order to realize a musical idea. A very nice unlikely blend of things, accessible, slightly nostalgic, but fresh and thoughtful. ” (CD Baby review, “At The Ukeshack #1)

“Del Rey, who plays a syncopated style of guitar based on prewar blues and barrelhouse piano traditions, is one of the best fingerpickers of this or any generation. “ Ian Zack, Acoustic Guitar
